A great success from start to finish...good to go to Mexico!

The Marathon Oasis of Montreal was a blend of anticipation, excitement and pleasure for the participants who had signed up through the Mission. The first objective was to achieve a physical activity in order to promote one’s health status and the second was to combine this with both pleasure and usefulness thus providing an opportunity to raise funds towards the construction of a multifunctional center in La Gloria, Mexico.

Our team of marathoners was superb as each one proudly wore a yellow t-shirt with the Mission’s logo visibly displayed, hence enabling them to spot each other amongst the crowd while attracting new attention and awareness to the Mission. The yellow t-shirts represented a common goal and a distinction that generated a lot of curiosity which ultimately, led to a news item in Montreal’s French newspaper, "La Presse".

Marathon

With eager determination, our 55 participants (members comprised of five families) began their respective marathon task as per individual predilection for either: walking, running, or riding. Every member achieved his task and entered the Olympic Stadium as a victorious athlete rightfully earning the praise and honour bestowed upon them.

This prestigious marathon was a first experience for many participants in our group as they discovered the joy of being part of a captivating and reputable event. I would also like to mention to some of them that I was genuinely happy to assert my motivational skills with respect to the training required in preparation for this important event.

I wish to thank the members of my family for their unrelenting support and encouragement through each leg of the marathon: Marc-Olivier Lavoie, Lucienne Lacerte et Lucien Martel. Special thanks as well to Majella Breton and Johanne Séguin, receptionist at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and her daughter, Joannie.

I invite you all to check out our photo album showcasing this event by visiting the album section. You will definitely appreciate the artistry of our official Mission photographer, Andrée Rondeau.

This event allowed us to raise funds in the total amount of $7,000. These funds will serve the Mission well to pursue the construction of a multifunctional center in La Gloria. I would like to congratulate Annie Lavoie for her unyielding determination and exceptional participation. I also acknowledge and thank all marathoners and their respective supporters and sponsors whose collective contributions crowned this sporting event with winning success. My thanks as well go to Mr Robert Carrière and Mrs Isabelle Nadeau from the Rogers Group in Longueuil for their availability and enthusiasm in responding to the needs of the Mission and most particularly this time, for the introduction of our new logo.

In closing, I hope to see you again at next year’s marathon and meanwhile, I shall anticipate your presence at our 3rd Edition of our fundraising benefit concert scheduled for April 11th, 2010 at the "Quartier Dix-30" in Brossard.

Dr Elaine Martel,
President of the Humanitarian Mission
