Three of these benefactors cannot go without mention:
- Mrs. Lina Vendrame, nurse at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, for her fervour in promoting the mission, as well as having organized a fund raiser.
- Mrs. Francine Savaria, who held a garage sale in which the funds raised were donated to the foundation.
- By the families of Della Posta and Flacco, here is their story :
A Christmas Shared…
Like every year, as soon as November rolls by, the Flacco and Della Posta families begin to prepare for the Holidays and celebrate Christmas.
Like every year, the members of these families are committed to reducing their gift exchanges.
And like every year, they soon realize that the task at hand will be difficult to achieve.
The members of these two families have therefore decided that Christmas 2008 will be different and that a new tradition will be born! They have chosen to alter their way of doing things by sharing with the poor and at the same time, take the opportunity to instill the value of sharing in their children.
Each family member writes down his or her name on a sheet of paper which is deposited inside a hat. The next step is to draw names as to who will give to who…But their project consists of one particularity: the amount allowed for the purchase of the gift is limited to $20.00 and every participant must contribute the same amount to a fund that will be donated to a charity.
The members of the Flacco and Della Posta families have as a result, chosen to donate this sum to the "Dr Elaine Martel Humanitarian Mission" simply because the objectives of this mission coincide with their values and as well, because they realize how they are so privileged in comparison to other families. Their desire to share honors them and makes one important statement to their children: a promise of better days in a better world ahead.
Thank you to these two wonderful families for their interest and support with respect to the "Dr Elaine Martel Humanitarian Mission", for their generosity and their creativity!
Thank you as well for the solidarity, first between your families and then between those in need and allowing us to share a little of their history.
Just know your solidarity and your initiatives have touched us profoundly and have shown us how much the realization of the mission is of importance to you. Please accept our gratitude for the all you have contributed to the soul of this mission with your intensity, vigour, and colour.
On my behalf and that of the administrative council, but above all the residents of La Gloria, our sincere heartfelt thanks.
Dr Elaine Martel,
President |
